An Unexpected Opportunity
In Rooms Foundation
For over a decade, In Rooms has largely existed in temporary spaces — hotel rooms, borrowed rooms, friends’ apartments, Airbnbs, abandoned homes, exhibitions, and places entered briefly before moving on again. It has been a beautiful, expansive, and often ephemeral journey that requires me to simultaneously move, build, break down and rebuild a hefty amount of props and equipment.
As I look toward the next chapter, I’ve realized I want to build and devote myself to something more rooted, a structure I don’t immediately have to leave, a space that can hold artists, ideas, creative projects and community.
Recently, an unexpected opportunity emerged, a vacant third-floor apartment in my building. With permission, I’ve been photographing there and recently held an enriching custom session within its walls. As the days pass, I find myself imagining not simply a studio or new apartment, but something much larger than my previous infrastructure. Over the coming weeks, I’m deciding whether to step into the space more fully and explore what a permanent home for In Rooms could look like...
I envision artist salons, visiting artists, portrait sessions, workshops, exhibitions and creative gatherings. I can see clearly how this space could become a physical home for ideas that have quietly existed for years and enable me to stay rooted in New Orleans, a destination for travelers from all over.
I’ve been thinking deeply about what In Rooms Foundation could blossom into, a space devoted to art, connection, transformation, storytelling, education, mentorship and community. I don’t have all the answers yet, but for the first time, I feel so clearly my life’s purpose unfolding and something that has lived mostly in photographs and imagination feels unexpectedly close…
More soon,
With love,
Brittany
