synchronicity, In Rooms Anniversary

August marks the 12th anniversary of my square series, In Rooms. The number 12 has felt like a milestone, a strange little doorway into another realm. There has been so much change, transformation, expansion and structures burnt to the ground this year.

Twelve has echoed throughout my thoughts as I recite frequently at fairs, ‘a series over a decade’ ‘over 11 years’, and so on. Then I remembered: twelve was my favorite number as a child, as far back as I can remember. It was always twelve, nothing else. Twelve was the number I chose for every sports jersey. I remember feeling secretly delighted that my birthday was twelve backwards: 2-1.

I loved twelve more than I could fully understand, it has always been there, trying to tell me something.
